April 5, 1944 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: Things are going much the same as usual. No news and I'm keeping busy with the some everyday jobs. Had a nice letter from Irma the other day, sometimes our mail doesn't come thru too fast from our other base it seems. Also heard from a couple of my old buddies who are now in England, one was that fellow from Presho, S. Dak. that I've spoken of. Some of the fellows I figured were here in Italy are there also so I won't get to see them. Got into town in a truck the other day it was disappointing, not too clean and very smelly. There are a few nice places but few and far between. There are nice oranges and almonds here and it seems everyone is selling them. There is a barber shop in one of the hangers, got a haircut, tonic, shampoo, facial and shave the other day for fifty lire or fifty cents. Think Barber Allen would starve at those prices, don't you?
