Somewhere in Italy April 14, 1944 Dear Dad & Mom: Wanted to get at this earlier but it is all ready getting dark so I'll have to hurry. This has been another busy day with details etc but it feels good to do a little work after a long period of idleness, makes a guy a bit stiff in spots. We are sleeping on the ground, in tents but thats no hardship for me as I'm well padded. We have lots of blankets and are comfortable. We picnic out too which I don't mind, our food is good and ample. When we get better settled there will be lots of things fixed up better. Must try and write to Grandma and Raymonds very soon but if you write them tell them where I am. Had a letter from Aunt Katherine with a P.S. from Ralph so must write them right away. Am glad A. & K. got to come up but its too bad the weather wasn't more pleasant. I must write them too in fact I'm way behind all around. I must sort your letters once and read them in order so I'll have a better idea of the happenings at home. I'm glad to hear my bank account is growing it sounds good to me. Have you received a notice of my new allotment having been made out? I started it on the March payroll so you wouldn't get it until the latter
