educated, knew just a little english and I could find a few words of Italian. Found there are lots of Latin words that kind of fit in, at least they are close enough so you can [illegible] a general idea. I traded some stamps with him which I'll put in they are nothing out of the ordinary. This kids was evacuated from another town which had been bombed and is about Dickey's size. Took a bath in my helmet last night find it quite a rare experience but certainly refreshing. On the base we had salt water showers and the darn soap wouldn't lather, just left kind of a greasy film you had to rub off with a towel. Our water here is very good, seems quite soft. The are here boasts a lot of this little ground lizards, harmless little fellows and I guess they go a lot of good catching flies, ants bugs etc. but quite disconcerting in our bed. We will soon fave P.X. services and so I stocked up on everything pretty much before I left I don't need anything now if I do I will write and ask you for it. Had hoped to buy some things to send home but haven't had a chance to as yet. guess there is nothing more to write at the present so will quite and write again tomorrow. Love Johnny
