22 February 1945 Dear Dave, I've been meaning to write for a long time to congratulate you on the fine work you are doing with Scuttlebutt. I recieve it regularly, and each drip makes me happy. My duty as officer-in-charge of an LCT is considered pretty good duty (I keep telling myself). For an ensign it can't be beat, in my opinion, for I have an entire ship under my command and responsibility. LCTs play an important part to all of the islands here in the Pacific, because they are the sole means of transporting supplies from ship to shore. Incidentally that is another point in favor of this duty--hauling fresh food,-or fruit,-or beer. I'll be glad to get home again, as who won't. When I first came to this atoll things were really humming but it has slowed down some now. The main topic of conversation here is "When the hell is my relief getting here." That's all for now--must get to work and straighten out some more paper clips. [Ens.] Don Morrison
