Mar. 11, 1945, Mariana Islands Dear Dave: It's been quite awhile since I last dropped you a note, hasn't it. Probably wouldn't be doing it now, but a fellow does have to defend himself a little, doesn't he. I'm referring to Milo Steele's little message. How do you like that - calling me skinny. I'm not skinny; just slender. Ask him now much he weighs, sometime. He looks fatter & sassier than ever. He surprised the daylights out of me today when he entered the place where I was working. And here I was wondering if he was all in one piece. It was sure nice to see him. He had dropped in on me once before - way before. Today, he had just come from visiting with Buzz Brown. And here I am, right next door to her - & I haven't even had time to look her up. Any way, Milo stayed for chow - & then went to call on Chuck Holden. Doc Droz is in the same place as Buzz, & I did see him, by accident, for a few words - but had to depart in a hurry. Let's see - the last time I wrote was in New Hebrides wasn't it. It's surprising, but for a landlubber - I do manage to spend my Thanksgivings on the bounding waves. However, we did make land for Xmas - & our mail was waiting for us. Four months of it. Man - did those boxes come in handy. If you go on a steady diet of C rations - you'll know what I mean when I say the boxes were most welcome. Just like a real feast. However, we're getting a little better food now - & pretty quick, we should be getting much better - I hope. Here's a good one - did you ever hear of a time-keepr in the Navy? That's me, for the present. I'm timekeeper on the [Seabees?]. I guess I'm not Donald R. Boyer, PhM 1/c
