[V-mail letterhead with To and From addresses] Dear Dave: This finds me in France and pretty well settled for the time being, at least. I find France much as I expected it to be in about all respects. The people who pass by the place where we are here all seem very friendly and quite willing to converse with us and this we accomplish after a fashion. I've learned a few words and phrases in French, no expert by any means though, [believe?]. Perhaps if I stay here long enough and practice long enough I'll get a lot better though. They all practically walk or ride bicycles, a few though have automobiles. They aren't very powerful, but are they ever sharp-looking. They run a lot of wagons and big two-wheeled carts by [illegible] and they certainly have some big horses pulling them. Guess the Germans didn't take everything in this district. I've been in one fairly big place, Le Harve. I saw some of the damage done there. They are working on repairs [illegible] it constantly though. I've gotten my American dollars changed into French Francs, which are worth a trifle over 2c to us. I got [1142?] Francs and that makes you feel like a millionaire; but I had only around $40. Have gotten one Scuttlebut over here so far. It was good as usual Sincerely, Rob Hinds
