[V-mail letterhead, with To and From addresses] March 14 1945 Some place in England:- Dear Dave. Received your 42 "Scuttlebutt" sure glad to get it. By the way lot of the fellows here read it and wonder what the word means that I can't answer except post a good line from the home town. since I last wrote you I studied for a time at the "American schools" I am not going back to combat nor my old outfit I have been reclassified from a rifleman to my work here. I was supposed to be shipped back to the States, but after I got to England they thought I could do some other work here so looks like they think I can do some more work. I still have a lot of trouble with one of my legs guess I am getting to be a old man - anyway Dave my Infantry outfit was the first to cross over into German soil last fall. we had kind of a hot time for a while there. Thanks to Freddie STewart for paying for the postage of mailing the "Scuttlebutt" Is that the Stewart that runs the hardware store there If it is. I use to work for him some wish to hell I was back there from here Well Dave wanted to let you know the change in address I will be seeing you some day Your friend Sam.
