[letterhead: United States Navy] 20 March 1945 Dear Dave, I have received six of your Scuttlebutt's so thought it was about time I wrote and tell you how much I appreciate them. It's great to hear how the boys from good old Washington are doing. And from the way it looks some of them are doing ok for themselves. As for me, I'm at a island in the South Pacific for the present. But since I'm on a cargo ship we should be leaving for somewhere else pretty soon. Crossed the equator and the international date line and true to Navy tradition will be iniatated into the Order of the Shellbacks. Some iniatation so I hear. I have pretty good duty on this ship and have been awful lucky on my leaves. So far I have just seen one of the boys from Washington. That was Bob Ross when met in San Francisco. Now that I get the
