from Ned Camp near Murfreesboro, Tenn. Jan. 23d, 1865. Dear Parents:- Yours of the _ ult. was received the day after I mailed my last, which I intended answering before, but I have found it extremely difficult to write where mud and snow was shoe-mouth deep all over the country. I think writing in camp is one of the most disagreeable enterprises to be undertaken, particularly when you are in doubt as to whether your letter ever reaches its destination. But to-day is a clear, beautiful day - the Sun is drying up the mud, and pleasant weather for a few days at least seems vouchsafed. Well, you wanted me to write more about the army than usual. I don't know how better to commence than to start from Nashville and end with the battles before Murfreesboro. We (our Division) commanded by Jeff. C. Davis, left Nashville on the 26th ult. taking the Knolensville Pike. Other divisions took different routs & all consentrated at the same time along the Murfreesboro Pike about two miles from the enemies line of battle. Here Rosecran's army was put in line of battle
