Headquarters Ill. 21st. Ironton, Mo., Jan. 28. Dear Father:- We have very unexpectedly just received orders to be prepared to "march" at 7 o'clock tomorrow morning. It is now 8 at night and I have but little to write, and but little time to write in. I rec'd Hout's letter a day or two since which I will answer as soon as possible. We are ordered to take eighteen day's rations, and can consequently expect to be out that long, and lucky if we return
