Hard Time's Plantation Hard Times Louisina Mary Composition Composit May 8th 1863 Dear Pa & Ma - M Aug 28th 1864 Mary th I seat myself today to write you a few lines, that you may know where I am. And how I am getting along. I wrote to Mary on the 3rd. the evening before leaving Richmond. We got here yesterday after noon. This place is forty miles below Vicksburg. We are in Camp on the River bank. We will cross the river in a day or two, on our way to Grand Gulf, which place our Troops have possesion of. They also took a number of Rebel prisoners. They all seem to be very tired of the war. They say if our Troops get in the rear of Vicksburg, they are gon up. I think so to. You will hear of good news
