Camp Near Acworth Ga. June 7th 1864 My Dear Father & Mother I wrote to Mary on the 2ond If I mistake not. We was acting as reserve at the time, and on the 4th (we was) that is our Brigade was ordered to relieve a Brigade that was in the Pits. This we did. I will just say it commenced raining the Evening of the 2ond and rained most of the time up to the morning of the 5th. so you may guess it was a very disagreeabel place in the pits. Well we had not long to stay here. We went in the pits the afternoon of the 4th. the morning of the 5th the Rebs was all gone except one man, who was left asleep. our skirmishers took him in out of the wet. I am only speeking of our Brigade
