Memphis Aug. 9th. - 1864 J.W.White Dear Bro. Yours of July 22d would have been answered sooner but for my having been overtaken with the "army quick-step" some nine days ago. Said disease facillitates trotting, but causes all other motions & movements to be made with great deliberation, and if possible to be ommitted altogether. I am nearly well now, & take my daily rations with a will Glad Boyer paid you & you did well to let Ambler have it. Should Boyer pay the balance you may let any safe person have it or keep it yourself at such interest as you may think right. Wife tells me Killpatrick has paid of the Mortgage he gave against the property & that Sen. Harlan has sent back to her the $200.00 I sent him on the same All right & glad of it of course. As Vernons house is sold, you will please look about a little, (just as you pass along & without taking up your time) & if you see something real cheap that you think would do for wife & (wancy?) to "fall & winter in", then let me know & I'll buy it, or rent it if not for sale I am not anxious to buy. I would rather build & so have something to suit me & to keep Still I will buy if I can find something cheap & that will do to live in & to sell again when I shall have built. My family will not be large next winter P.S. Heard from July 29th All well there. Don't know when we will leave here - may stay all winter - rather think we will but of course all is in the dark future, & I seldom look that way
