October 4, 1943 Dear Mother, I've just had a hot bath & will try to get this off before my roommates appear. One is Josephine Clapp of Michigan, who is to do domestic hospital work, the other I don't know about, as she hasn't yet turned up. I just phoned Donald Farr (note at top - Donald Farr - 1932 Iowa Engineering Grad. Colonel & later general in Army in Washington DC. Lloyd Lynch, grad at SUI, probably 1930 Major in Pentagon) & he suggests getting some of the old bunch together while I am here - Lloyd & Russell Neess (?), etc. He giggled when he heard what I was doing & said he didn't think I'd stay settled long in teaching. On the train yesterday I met an old gentleman from Des Moines named George Hise. He is the Red Cross counsel for the Mid West - sues for funds misappropriated etc. He knew Peg & Hester Hise well, though they aren't related. He asked me to have dinner with him in the next day or so, so maybe I shall.
