October 7, 1943 Thursday Dear Mother, We moved (Josephine & I) from the hotel out here on the campus, so we are now in women's Residence Hall at American University. We have a third girl in our room, a Helen Whitten from Dallas. I had my first tetanus shot this morning & my blood typed. No ill results. I'm to have a personnel staff interview tomorrow to see if I fit in where I am, so will be able to tell you more after that. I have lots to say but little time. it's very, very interesting! Love, Helen The mocking birds are singing beautifully!
