[Oct. 23, 1943] Saturday Evening Dear Mother, This is the first chance I have had to answer your Tuesday letter, which I got Thursday. Good time on that one! I'll answer your questions first & then tell about the week's events. I'm writing this on my bed, so its apt to be worse than usual. I gave that card to the porter to mail in Pittsburgh the night after I left home - Sunday night. He must have had an awful lapse! How nice that you have lots of peanuts. I should think it would be easy to figure out what to do with them next, even if you don't have a Boy Scout or Aunt Min there to help. It hasn't frosted here yet, and the trees are gorgeous. There's a kind of English Boxwood that is dark green and most effective in formal planting. It's around the Lincoln Memorial. There is also a lot of use of ivy as a cover plant in small front yards & terraces. That's the kind we have to bring in. I haven't had any sinus trouble at all - nor a cold. Many of the girls from the south are snuffing around, but I find the climate
