Nov. 24th [1943] Dear Mother, I've just finished my first day off since I arrived. I got up late, took a bus to Ayer to see about our return reservations, bought the tickets, ate dinner & came home. I washed my hair (it looks fine), fixed the hem in one of my hospital dresses & read. I brought along with me Stuart Cloetes Congo Song & Nancy Hales The Prodigal Women which I'll send home from Washington. About 7:30, as I was sitting up in bed finishing a letter to Mr. Muline someone knocked at my door. It was a lieutenant & his wife who live down the hall. I had met him at the hospital. They visited a few minutes & then asked me to go to a movie. I got dressed & went. We picked up another couple I'd met & we went to one of the 7 movie theaters in Fort Devons camp area. We saw Dorothy Lamour in "Riding High." It wasn't too hot, but gift horses, etc. Then we went to the officers' club &
