3 is entirely lacking. There are young, vigorous, interesting men who accidentally find themselves here and refuse to let it impress them too much. Their attitude toward us astounds me. If there is any sign of rough talk out on the porch, etc. someone always says "Pipe down! We've got company!" I feel like a combination of the Virgin Mary and Dorothy Lamour. One of the patients who is nearly well and who is around the Rec. Hall a lot turns out to be from Oelwein. His family knew Grandpa Fox when he was in the monument business. His name is Winninger & he's very nice. There are four regular recreation workers, about five social workers and about four secretaries as regular staff. Yesterday was a day off for me, but I went out at noon & found they were swamped with new patients who were back from England. Mary Bess had to go out on ten wards, taking tooth brushes shaving cream, etc. to new patients, so I stayed in the craft shop all afternoon. I had eighteen customers, & was pretty
