Item 2 restricted When I had dinner with Wil the Saturday before I went to Devens, he said "Helen, can you keep a secret?" & when I said I could he informed me that Mr. Roosevelt had left Thursday for the conference. That was two weeks and several days before it was public & it was ever so much fun watching for it. Don't tell Wil I told you. He also said the feeling was prevalent in inside circles that Mr. R. was not going to run again. Also restricted somewhat I can tell you lots more about clearing now. I won't phone you after all, as I'll have plenty of time to write, no doubt & can say more. Whenever the newly formed hospital units in this country are about ready to move they request a Red Cross staff. The available & suitable people are assigned (usually a group of 3 for a small hospital & 5 for a large) and are notified of clearance date. When they clear they record shots, birth cert., get dog tags, allot salaries, etc. Then the Red Cross staff joins
