3 Yesterday morning I bought a box of candy for Freddy [Belgian soldier serving with British forces] & one for Maureen [Friend in Scotland I knew in Paris summer of 1931] & mailed them. I took a chance on chocolate in a metal box & called them "assorted candy". I know they'd like that best. I had a manila envelope from Red Cross yesterday with your letters no. 7 & 8 & one from Harriet & one from Roland [Fischer - teacher at Whitefish Bay, Wis]. Today one from Marie Devlin. Don says I should fudge & say, as he does. "In answer to yours of the 5th, 18th & 21st"--etc. Roland's job in Chanute folded up & he's doing substitute teaching in Milwaukee. He's working on getting into the Merchant Marine says he'd lost 50 lbs. Harriet [Koehler, childhood friend from Waucoma, Iowa Her husband in nuclear program at U. of Ill.] says Pam stands now in her play pen. Maybe I'll get to see her before I go. Her mother is coming for Christmas & New Years. I had a nice note from June [Mrs. Charles Strothers, SUI & neighbor] a day or so ago. If you do send books or kodak, be sure to drop me a card so I'll check at Nat'l for them. My letters come here to the Hotel, but packages go to
