[Dec. 14, 1943] Note Donald Farr (Don) was a friend from Waucoma. While at SUI I went to all the Military Balls with him, & other places as well. Dear Mother, Don phoned last night & said I was all fixed up. It's a General one and the number is that of Grandma Foxe's age. It is going where I wanted most of all to go and it is now training where we laughed about my probably ending up after all my farewells. We'll be on our way about Jan 1st. I don't know when I'll clear here, as he didn't know whether they'd send me to it earlier or have me meet it at the port. Isn't he a dear? Don't tell a soul, of course; it is just our good fortune to know it. I went down today to see if I might get home for a few days this week, but I could see it would worry them to have me so far, so I won't try it. They didn't know I knew, & told me most mysteriously that I had been definitely assigned and that while clearance didn't seem immediate they couldn't be sure of the
