Dec. 15, 1943 Wednesday night Dear Mother, I got letter 11 today & one from Shiptons. Yes, I do like the lettering better on the last card. It's very good, I think & so does everyone I show it to. I answered your question about sending cards, didn't I? We decided that you'd send to any who sent them to me & who weren't included in your list. What a shame you were sick! It must have been horrid -- all alone in a cold house. Our dual performance was quite cheery, as I recall. At any rate, now you know it's buttermilk & can pour it down the drain. I wonder if she keeps it in a metal jar or anything like that. I never heard of its being dangerous but it certainly has something. I sent Harriet a red lacy wool scarf - mailed it this morning. The clippings were interesting. I'll retaliate with one of my own. I've about decided to gamble on the baggage situation & try to take a small canvas bag in addition. Girls often do take more. I can get everything in that I have now & planned to take but my, how I'd like to take that quilted housecoat & my black stadium boots. That is, if you aren't using them yourself
