is "Whiting Field", which is one of Pensacola's auxiliary fields. It is about 45 mi. north of Pensacola, out in the middle of no-where. It's not a bad field though & facilities & barracks are not bad. I will be out here about 4 weeks until I finish my Instrument Course, which we are taking 550 H.P. SNJ.'s. After completing that I will be sent back to the main base at Pensacola for my final Squadron which will be PBy "Catalina's". They are a large two-motor sea plane, each motor putting out 1200 H.P. which really seems large to me at present. I'm really anxious to get started in them though. Well, I will close for now, hoping the cold weather hasn't gotten the best of you folks at home. The weather here is nice enough that we can go in our shirt sleeves nearly all day long. It gets cool at night though. Flying weather is fine at present. So long for now. Sincerely yours, Bill Maas
