12 - 9 - 44 Dear Dave: Surely was glad to receive the 35th drip of the Scuttlebutt and get all the news from fellows back home. I can still say home but if I don't get out of these Pacific Islands pretty soon I'm afraid this will have to be home. I've been out here twenty-one months now and I don't see any chance of leaving very soon. I never have run on to any on that I ever knew before. Although I have come pretty close
