UNITED STATES NAVY 30 July 1945 Dear Mr. Elder, I've been receiving your weekly edition of the "Scuttlebutt" regularly and I've really enjoyed reading it! However, now that I expect to be leaving rather soon, please discontinue sending me the "Scuttlebutt" untill I get settled down once again. When I do I'll let you know and send you my new address. This California really is some state! There seems to be plenty of everything but you pay for it, and how! But California can't come close to Iowa when it comes to growing corn. So far I haven't seen a single corn field since I've been here. I like California best of all the states I've been stationed in so far. Of course no state can take the place for good old Iowa! Our crew (81-C) has been doing a little flying lately. We would have been doing more, but the weather hasn't been so good for flying. Don't let anyone feed you a line about sunny Calif. San Francisco and surrounding country have the worst fogs roll in I ever saw. The fog will start rolling in about
