From Harvey Wertz (Somewhere in France) March 5-18 Dear Dad Have just received two letters from you one written Jan 19 and the other the 21st was very glad to hear from you and all the folks I have recieved 2 M.O. for 5.00 each from you and have plenty of money now. We have moved as I told you in my previous letters and are in the trenches now. We "the headquarters platoon" are billeted a short distance in the rear of the trenches in a a case of attack or an offensive movement that is whenever there is anything going on we beat it to the commanders post and then carry messages for him to the various guns. We sleep with our boots and side arms and gas masks on they have several gas alarms everyday but so far I have always got my mask on and the gas doesnt bother me at all. This morning we were awakened
