Apr. 14 [1918] Dear Mother Today is Sunday and as we are in the trenches I had no opportunity of going to Mass. it has been very warm today and the leaves are coming out on the trees and everything seems to say that spring is here again. It has not rained for 3 or four days so I guess we are going to have good weather from now until next Winter Indications point to a wonderful summer for me, with just enough excitement to keep me interested. It does seem fine to see the jolly old sun come creeping over the hills in the morning and not have to tramp around in the mud with the clumsy old boots rubbing the heels out of your socks as fast as Uncle Sam and Aunt Anna can provide them. We have a Y.M.C.A. here and every 3 or four days a French Cooperative wagon comes out and we can buy chocolate and cookies and vin rouge we can get cookies and
