now instead of 37.50 as before. I had dinner with Sam Carpenter today he is gunner for an anti aircraft gun back a little ways and I met him about noon and he has an old French woman who fries spuds and eggs for him and we went down to her place and ate about a bushel of frenchfries and a dozen eggs and red wine so you see life in the trenches isnt so bad after all. It is getting warm here and the grass is long and green and blossoms are coming on the trees and summer will be here before very long. I seen a blacksmith shoeing a steer today and the language he used was wonderful. Well I guess this is all for now your loving son Pvt. H. W. Wertz M. G. Co. 168 Inf over O.K. Lt C.J. Riley 168 Inf.
