return to the old regiment. I received 4 Literary Digest today and two Register and Readers. I was sure glad to get them as we are 40 miles from anywhere and I have no way of getting writing paper even. I suppose you know we are shock troops now we go into the trenches, (do our little stunt and joull out for somewhere else) for a short but furious spell and then get a little rest before the next bit in the trenches somewhere else. Well I must close for now and go to bed. Lots of love to you and Dad and the kids. Pvt. H. W. Wertz Machine Gun Co. 1 & 8 Iuf. A.E.F.
