[Sept. 17? 1945] Dear Kitty; Some day you had better write a book on the Life of David Elder, I really get a kick out of your mishaps and weekly experiences. Between your chickens, cats and Donations to, "The Better Poker Players of Washington" your life is anything but Dull. Hows old Poker Face McFarlane making out these nights - Really get a bang playing poker with that old boy. Was transferred to Galveston Tex about the 25th of last month. Left the 74337 and caught the 74300 recently sent up here from Florida. They are a small Cutter only seventy-five feet long and carry nine men, but very confortable to live on. I arrived in Galveston in time to get a taste of that Hurricane. My Boat was out so spent the night in the boat-house fighting Mosquitoes. Everything was boarded up and we just sat there and waited but fortunately the
