May 18, 1944 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: Sorry to have missed writing these past few days but just haven't had the time weve really kept busy the past days. Am still working without a shirt and Im getting pretty black. Am going to the show tonight don't know what it will be but will take a chance on it you carry your own chair, box or what have you to sit on and hope you get behind a short guy. At our regular field we have a fine natural theatre the ground gently sloping to a place where the screen is set to everyone can see. Got Mrs. Lynch's letter yesterday and one from you. Hers came regular mail in exactly the same time as your V-mail one so Im at a loss to know what kind of mail comes thru the quickest. Im mighty glad to get any of it. Met another fellow from my old outfit today, he wasn't one of my particular buddies but it's always good to see a familiar face. Say is there anything I could buy over here that you would particularly like. I haven't been in any shops as yet but Ive heard they are
