May 20, 1944 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: Today was a jack pot as far as letters were concerned for me I got two from you one from Grandmother, one from Mrs Lynch and one from Valdi. Grandmother writes she is feeling well and her letter was easy to read. She is certainly remarkable. Your most recent letter was dated the fifth so it takes them about two weeks coming this way, glad they go that way in a shorter time. Couldn't find anything solid to write on tonight so this letter may not be very legible. Am looking anxiously forward to the arrival of the box you said you'd sent. Expect it will be along any day now. Mom things are probably as hard to get at home as they are here so for gosh sakes don't send me candy and stuff that you folks would have to do without to make it possible. I think I'll maintain my weight without it. Read another book yesterday "A President is Born" by Fannie Hurst, liked it her descriptions are very good and I enjoyed the characters in it. Sometimes I have a few hours, when the ships are flying, to myself but very often I'm scouring around after parts etc. Wrote Bob a letter last night but expect it will be an age before he receives it. That was a shame about Mr. Beall, you will miss him going tripping by the house every
