May 24, 1944 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: Got the package today with the Air mail envelopes in it, thanks a heap. I'd just about used up my supply I had brought with me. Our mail now is pretty good about getting things tho and I think they are available over here. Everything is still going smoothly, not overworking, foods okay and have little to kick about, they say a good soldier can always find something to gripe about but then I consider myself a poor soldier, don't intend to be a thirty year man in the army. You asked in a recent letter if I'd heard from Jay Williams I had a letter not long ago and he's working in Omaha, guess he likes his new job okay. No I haven't seen any dandelions here there is a little red flower that looks like a kind of poppy and daisies Ive noticed. Some of the places are landscaped and have nice flowers but most have lawns about like we saw thru the cotton country in the south. the country side is far prettier than the towns. Enjoyed the clippings you sent and I got that Des Moines special edition you asked about. I mentioned it in a letter which you have probably received by now. Got two letters from Bob yesterday one two months old and the other one month, it's funny
