May 28, 1944 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: Golly how time flies, the month of May is nearly gone and summer will soon be here. The weather back home should be nice now and the country beautiful. Hope you have enough gas so you can take a few pleasure jaunts. Had a movie last night, a double feature, neither one so hot but one was a western and had some pretty horses in it. They are going to have some news reels and show subjects tonight and I believe I'll go. It doesn't seem as tho Dick could possibly be in the fifth grade next year but kids do grow up fast. It's nice Bob can get home on leave it's been a long time since he was in West Union, hope he and Dick catch a lot of trout for I know thats the first place they'll head for. I'm glad you liked "Jack London." I saw it some time ago and thought it good too. Wonder how much of it was his true life and how much was made up. We are able to get some fresh cherries now from the natives. They are very good and quite large cost about twenty cents a quart so we've been eating quite a lot of them.
