Sept 2, 1944 Dear Mother, No letter, but a lovely package, number seven to answer. It was scrumptious, from the lovely red sweater to the good bars, mostly eaten already. The lunch tongue is put away for our trip to Plymouth next week. Thanks a lot. I had been so hoping the red sweater would come, as the last week the weather has been quite grey and dull. I wore it all day and so many people spoke of it. Polly hates me because of it. I must tell you about my play at Stratford. I guess I told you that Col. Dyke had asked me to go Wed. evening. Perhaps being out of the army set-up you don't realize what an honor it is to be asked out y the C.O., but take my word for it, it creates a stir. All the "gals" called on me before & after. Well, anyway, he met me after dinner and we walked out to the administration building and into a gorgeous car he has - a Chrysler dark blue station wagon sort of thing. I was the only girl, and there were four Lieutenant -
