Saving...
October 3, 1944 Dear Mother, I'm just back from a grand vacation in Scotland with Maureen and Mrs. Croly. It will probably take several letters to tell you about it. I found letters twenty nine to thirty three inclusive from you, one from Aunt Bertha, one from Mary Olsen, and one from Marie Devlin & one from Mrs. Smith. What a nice lot of reading. I'll answer the letters first and then tell you about the trip. Incidentally, Jay got lonesome the first night I was gone so Polly slept in my bed the rest of the time. Johnnie came in after dinner to hear all about the trip. She left to go on night duty, then I took a bath and am now all set. There is probably a short circuit somewhere in the radio or it would've blown out a tube like that. Mrs. Smith (Mrs. Earle Smith, at Red Cross in Iowa City) says she enjoys you so, and "sees now why I am so nice." Yes, better leave the mink in storage. I didn't know you still needed points for meat. Pretty crochet design. Yes, it's the same Tom Farmer. I'm glad he's well again. If you could send me some hose I'd be very glad. The seem to go fast.
