there Hindenburg lost the flower of his troops and in one battle France lost a hundred thousand men. I have talked with men who have been up there and they say that it sure is the city of the dead not a civilian left and not a building standing of what once was a great city and than they wonder why France hates Germany. On the Front where we were the towns were not torn up very bad and I dident think there had been much fighting in the towns where we were. but up around the trenches it looked as if hell had been loose at some time or other. and when I was in the hospital I got to
