Co. I. who had lost several men in a raid the Germans put over. and if I live to be a hundred I'll never forget the night we went in dark as pitch and few if any of the men had been there before. Off toward the German trenches you would see a flare go up but otherwise it was still. The Leiut. took me and two other runners to his dugout and told me to try to sleep. I just got to sleep when he woke me up and sent me to the Co PC. with a message to the Capt and he sent me to the Telephone Dugout and I staid right there until we were relieved by the French. When anybody wanted one of the officers I had to go after them
