last night with a sore throat - got up often & gargled - fixed a strong rum (slieng?) and today it is leaving fast - I took a hot water bottle and curled up in our bed all day & read and snoozed. Mrs. Hayes (Nora Lewison's sister) invited me to a tea this afternoon to meet a friend of hers just back from R.C. work in Scotland - I did so want to go but felt I shouldn't both for my self and for exposing others so didn't go. She said she & Betty S. would come over some afternoon and tell me all about Nora. She is in England somewhere north of London. Oh Yes, Tue I got your G. bonds ordered and shopped for groceries & stuff for you at the Co-Op - things to be delivered Sat. Send Maureen a box often if you can - also give things to your other English friends. Came home on the 5:30 bus cooked steak & 1 potato & to bed. Yester I got 150 gal fuel oil - have used almost half the coupons now which is supposed to be about right. Tonight after the 5:30 news, I went out and fried my Christmas present pheasant & fixed mashed potatos - creamed onions & ground cherry sauce & Sanka - hadn't felt like eating much before today - now I am full & warm & happy tucked up in bed with the hot water bottle at my feet. Bess Beerbower phoned from the Hospital today but we decided she'd better not bring Anita out as long as I had a cold - I enjoy seeing her when she leaves the baby home. I had a letter from Fran yesterday - She wants to hear from you again - about the work etc - says they hear a lot from the canteen girls but not much from the Hospital. She asked if I could loan her some of my letters from you but I think you'd better send her one of her own. She says she is again torn by indecision - for me to ask H. Fochet what about - I haven't seen Helen yet so don't know what her trouble is - I rather imagine it is whether to come back here Feb 1st or not. Helen Barnes is trying
