Friday night - Jan 19th [1945] Dear Helen - Two letters to answer No. 73 written Jan 6th and No. 71 written Dec 26th (the first mentioned came yesterday - and old 71 came limping in today) That leaves only 70 mission - probably that is the one that tells what became of Helen C. and the Rabbit. - one of these explains the "tan" I had wondered about - when they arrive out of turn it makes quite a guessing game of our correspondence. Well, I like 'em anyway they come. I find I had written in my diary for yesterday that it was a very unsatisfactory day except for your letter so you see you were my "bright spot". In the first place, after I did the usual household jobs, I drafted the letter I want to send (Freleyte?) - always a disagreeable task - then I struggled on my Federal Income tax blanks - got them ready to take over for Mr. Condon to check over. I also looked up your blank & corrections - Then I phoned Grace Allen to see if she had a fitting early in this P.M. She did, so I gave up the idea of taking her your white material & pattern for the blouse. Phoned Yelters and they had Bonfire so told them to save me a stick - debated about going over to the lecture as rain was the forecast and I'd have to walk. Finally at 3 the sun came out so I did too - By that time it was too late to get in the Bank or P.O. so went right to the lecture. By the time that was over at 5 it was too late for much shopping as the stores close at 5:30. I galloped to Yelters & got 2 Bonfires - will send them in different boxes so maybe one at least will reach you came home by bus - ate bean soup - wanted to go right to bed as I'm always pretty tired after walking
