Monday - March 19th 1945 Dear Helen - Nice letter 86, written March 11th; the lovely post card picture of Gourock; and the beautiful pampas grass Mother's Day card all came today. I too hope you won't be so far away by another spring. I phoned Betty as soon as she got home from her day at the R.C. War Fund office and she was so glad you had found George. You'll be amused at our frantic letters telling you to hunt him up - His wife's name is Marie and they call his little boy "G.W." because they wanted to name him George but didn't want to call him either "George" or "Junior". What does he think of your joining forces on a birthday present for Betty? Better write Betty a "request" then she can send some of the things I have piled up here for you and also enclose something for GW. Is he apt to be sent back here very soon? Queer how long those cussed tax blanks took getting to you. I'll just sit tight and forget it for a while, then if the Des Moines office sends the bill here, I'll pay it and if they don't I'll put your money in the Postal Savings acct. - Should they get balled up and send it to you, you can fire it back to me. They do such wild and complicated things - no telling where it will be sent - It doesn't matter anyway, if they prefer the hard way. No you weren't supposed to know anything about a "bill" - Mr. Conden said the Des Moines office had to figure it after they received the blank from you. The violet has a faint odor - or I have a strong imagination. Sounds as tho England in the Spring is all the poets say of it. Poor Jay - too bad she had such a hard trip - How did she make it home? What sort of a place is her new location? a Hospital? Glad box 34 reached you - the next one should be the one with the blouse in it. Grace will make up the rest of your cloth as soon as we hear how that one fits and if you have any changes to suggest - yoke in back for instance. I have a cake of soap in the one I'm mailing tomorrow - will put in more from your bottom drawer as I have room for them. What is "Nescafe'" you asked for? Would you rather have evaporated milk like Pet or Carnation, than Eagle Brand?
