Monday night - April 30 - 45 Dear Helen - Nice! I got letters 9 and the postcard today. I do hope your tummy settled itself speedily. Better leave the water along and stick to wine - So glad you saw Herb. I phoned his mother and she was glad you had seen each other - Said they usually got a letter from him on Mon. but didn't today - She and her mother had promised to come over for tea some day this week but she said maybe not make it as she (Clara) is on crutches at present. She was lifting her box of tomato plants out of the bath tub and twisted her right knee - Said it was getting better fast but she was still lying around instead of house cleaning as she had planned. Gretchen was here this morning when your letter came and was much interested - Said Clay would be interested in your remarks about Beretra Heckland - He liked her. You'll need a tonic if a whole bunch of my pointless letters are dumped on you at one time - Seems as tho one or the other of us is always writing "blind" with no letters to answer. I packed box 47 today and will send it tomorrow to the address in this letter - will be glad when you tell me what you want now, either for yourself or friends. How much had you sent Maureen before you left England? I hope Johnnie catches up with you - How come you get free meals there when you didn't in England? Glad the Brittany wear store is still there. About the only piece we need is a large cream pitcher suitable for cream when we have short cake or such, or maple syrup or such. I should think you'd feel like just locating on some street corner to help the poor lonesome boys who can't speak French - Am anxious to know where you locate. I think in a day or so it will be perfectly safe to tell me exactly where you are - Nothing the Germans can
