Sat. Night May 26. 1945 Dear Helen - Nice, fat 14 came today after a silence of almost two weeks - Mrs Smith phoned today and said Herb's last letter was late arriving too. I am so sorry you have so many things the matter with you but I did have to smile at the multiplicity of ailments. Better go back to the 91st where they take better care of you. Did the P.W. drop the bed on you on purpose? Nasty man(?) I found Ciney on the map and it seems to be about 50 miles southeast of Brussels and about 15 from your shopping center of Namur. I wish you'd mark now names are pronounced - it is "Sin'-ey" or what? Anything but work in the C.B.I. locale I'd say. When things break up there why don't you take a furlough and come home for a month if possible, then either go back somewhere there or maybe somewhere here in the States. I am sure when you are rested up, you would be discontented here unless the whole war was ended and all the sick men were well. When the box you mentioned sending, arrives shall I keep the things for the folks Christmas? I am still waiting for your instructions on the Mary & Betty ash trays and the Grace & Roberts compacts - I have them in the Christmas drawer - No one has seen anything but the 6 spoons and the Kodak group pictures. I am trying to take the "bend" out of those beautiful English pictures. I may have to stick in rusk or
