Thursday. Aug 2 - 45 Dear Helen - The big wooden box came yesterday - Not bad time as there were Stars & Stripes in it dated June 28th. I was annoyed and a trifle horrified to see the number of my letters you have had to wade through - You have a strong constitution. Don't you have any place to burn 'em? I had a lot of fun sorting & looking over things - I have put the childrens books in the gift drawer - their fate to be decided by you later - The Russian ones are with your others on top of your chest of drawers - the French ones on the little book case by the piano. - Who are the people in that big picture taken around a table? I love the theater programs - have them all together on the ledge by the fireplace for your friends to look over - The maps are interesting. My what a lot of leather & gloves! You'll not have to buy any for years and can also make gifts to your friends. - Did you do that lovely, fine lettering? I don't see how anyone could write that big (shuttle?), Not a thing injured - even in the box of textile colors - I have put them on your closet shelf. - What do you do with the feathers? they are now in the top left dressing table drawer. Is the clock the one you had (guess?) you in Waterloo? It is a dandy - I took it out - set it, and plugged it in there on the library table and it started right in ticking away. Presume the sleeve pieces are from your work uniforms. Where is the other white slipper? there was just one carefully covered with its "mitten". I enjoyed the language used in the alert notices on the programs. Nice brown & white seersucker dress - wish I were right size for it.
