In the midst of our prosperity in the northern or free States a secret canker worm was growing at the very roots of the tree of liberty. South Carolina which has been among the last to enter in the Confederation, was again the first to pass an ordinance of secession, to be out of the union, Again, at the time of the Revolutionary Struggle South Carolina contained within her borders as many Tories as the other twelve states together, At the time of the late war of 1812 we find the brave Marion had wonderful conflicts and battles with the Tories of South Carolina that had banded themselves together into armies In the days of Nulification we find South Carolina again acted a promenent part, But Jackson the imortal Jackson said, By the E---- I'll hang every one of you if you dont keep quiet and so crushed the conspiracy in the very bud, and ever since that time South Carolina in connection with the cotton States has been sitting on secession Eggs awaiting a favourable opportunity to fledge her pernicious brood, And now fellow Citezens is it not self evident, and is it not clearly demmonstrated by transpiring facts of the present day, that, that aristocratic and contaminated
