9 blood of her ancestors floose copiously in the veins of all her decendants of the present day, Again let us look at the black ingratitude of Texas, In the days of her troubles she applied at the door of these united States for Annexation which involved us in a war with Mexico and cost us about one hundred millions of dollars She came into this Union (if I am allowed the expression) as a lousy Calf into a fat state, And after being carefully nurtured under the fostering care of uncle Sam, She began to grow fat and kick up her heels and bid defiance to her kind benefactor, unite with the other Seceeding States, to desecrate this fourth this glorious fourth of July, the day we commenorate, the birth day of our freedom, and have attempted to set up an independence of her own. And now in view of the cost, In view of the many precious lives that we sacraficed, In view of the sacred honor that was pledged by our ancestors shall we fold our hands and look on the dismemberment of this blood bought union with indifference. No fellow citezens this calls loudly for action for immediate action And I heartily concur with the Stand and promptness of measures our government has taken to put down this rebellion, to preserve the union make the rebels feel the rod of their folly
