11 thing. So am I (single-blessed, not cussed, I mean) and not being a Cleopatra, am not overwhelmed with offers to change to married bliss! I had a French girl friend over for a holiday, and amongst other things she expressed her astonishment that Englishwomen ever got married, when you considered their awful looks, and no dowry. After this bit of Continental politeness (so different from the rude English) I explained that somehow the race had to live on, and so by a wonderful provision of Nature Englishmen don't notice the defects of their womenfolk, and just go right ahead and marry them, looks and all. Madame d'Ormant (written in margin - woman in whose home Maureen & I lived during summer of 1931 in Paris) wrote to me asking could I find her a place "au pair" (she would pay a little for Jacques, and go herself as governess) in a family
