Dutch East Indies January 3rd 1945 54th Gen. Hosp APO 565 Dear Helen: I can well imagine how busy you are honey, so your delightful letter and Christmas greeting was doubly appreciated. The description of the hospital and living conditions over there are so luxurious as to be almost unbelievable to this old jungle habitué. Metropolitan cities, country estates etc are a little too far removed from us all over here, to be even credible any more. We run much more to the grass hut, tin shanty idea. Both of which are quite comfortable and so much more desirable than tents with dirt floors, that the lucky ones who occupy
