Spice Cookies - Miss McDanolds Mix thoroughly: 1/2 c. shortening 1 1/4 c. br. sugar packed 1 egg Stir in: 2 tbs hot water in which is dissolved 1/4 tsp soda Sift together and add 1 3/4 c. sifted flour 2 tsp. Calumet b. powder 1/2 tsp each of salt, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg Stir in 1/2 c. cut up dates 1/2 c. " " nuts Roll in balls - flatten on greased tin. Cook 10 to 12 min at 375º. Makes 50 to 60 Thimble Cookies . Helen Atwood 1/4 c. butter 2 egg yolks 1/2 tsp vanilla 1/4 c powdered sugar 3/4 c flour Chill - Make ball 3/4" diameter With floured thimble make a depression in center - fill with jam & finely chopped nut meats Bake 350º oven 12 mins.
