Madeline Hubler Simnel Cale 2 cups sugar 1.5 cup butter 6 eggs 4.5 cups sifter flour 1 tsp. salt 1/4 lb. orange or lemon [food] 3/4 lb currants Almond Paste 1.5 cups sugar 1/2 lb ground almonds (finest ground) 1 tsp. almond extract 2 eggs Cream butter and sugar until very light, beat each egg separately and add - beat well. Gradually stir in {????} and add remaining ingredients. Beat. Combine ingredients for almond paste. Line 9" deep cake with brown pan. Leave 1" above pan - Grease well pour 1/2 cake batter in Spread 1/3 of almond past over it Add remaining batter, cook at 300 degrees for approximately 3 hours. Spread well remaining paste. Make balls for edge of cake - return to over 10 minutes to brown.
